Namaste! My name is Pola Kolchinskaya. As a yogini and alternative medicine enthusiast, my life revolves around the pursuit of harmony of body, mind and spirit. Leading meditations in a women's circle, attending and organizing self-development workshops and exploring the depths of spiritual development are my daily practices. My passion for yoga has taken me to the most exotic corners of the world, including Bali, where the magic and energy of the place enhances the experience of yoga practice. The blog I run is a reflection of my life philosophy - sharing the joy of life. I love discovering new cultures, people, flavors and spaces, which inspires me to share it all with my readers. I believe that every trip, every workshop and every practice is a step towards a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world around us. My goal is not only to inspire people to live in harmony with themselves, but also to show what a multidimensional adventure life can be when we allow ourselves to reflect and breathe deeply.

Wim Hof’s method is not just the notion of a superpower that allows you to conquer Mount Everest in shorts. It’s first and foremost an awareness of how powerful the human body is. Wim Hof’s breathing method is a combination of breathing, cold exposure and meditation, and it produces spectacular results. What kind of results?

Who is Wim Hof?

Wim Hof, also known as “Iceman,” is a 62-year-old Dutchman who has made a name for himself as a man who can control his body temperature. He has made multiple entries in the Guinness Book of World Records thanks to his achievements, for such things as:

  • the longest bath in ice,
  • reaching the summit of Kilimanjaro in two days, wearing only shorts and boots,
  • running an entire marathon in the Namib Desert without drinking any water while running.

According to Wim Hof, the key to the success of his extreme activities is his ability to control his mind over his body. Considered by many to be a charlatan, he has repeatedly undergone tests to prove the authenticity of his achievements. So how does he do it?

The Wim Hof method – what does it consist of?

The Wim Hof method consists of three interconnected elements:

  • breathing technique: entering a state of controlled hyperventilation. Wim Hof’s breathing technique involves conscious breathing that cleanses the body, restores proper energy flow, reduces stress and strengthens the immune system;
  • exposure to cold: this is subjecting the body to cold temperatures, i.e. cold baths, showers, walking in cold temperatures. This, according to Hof, has a very good effect on the human body, increases immunity, helps burn fat, improves mood and benefits sleep;
  • meditation: it unleashes inner power, unblocks the flow of energy, and thus helps to get out of the comfort zone to which the body is accustomed, as well as the beliefs of the mind itself. An important aspect of meditation is abiding mindfully in the moment (see also: Minfulness – mindfulness training).

Controlling the mind is crucial to the success of Wim Hof’s method, which does not mean that the earlier elements should be approached lightly. On the contrary, getting the body accustomed to cold temperatures should occur gradually, while breathing techniques should be performed regularly, according to the principles guiding Wim Hof. The combination of these elements is essential to the success of the Iceman method.

Wim Hof’s breathing technique

Wim Hof’s breathing method should be performed every morning, on an empty stomach. It should be performed quietly, preferably while lying down, never while driving or doing any other activity that requires concentration. How to practice.

  • Take 30 deep breaths starting from the diaphragm, through the lungs as much as our body allows, and a quick, short exhalation through the mouth. Try to breathe into your whole body, directing the air to your arms, legs, hips, head. It is possible to feel a tingling and flow of energy in your hands, feet and other parts of your body after performing this stage of the exercise.
  • Letting all the air out of your lungs and holding your breath as much as your body allows. The moment you feel the need to take another inhale, proceed to the third phase of the exercise.
  • One deep breath in and hold it for 15 seconds. In this phase, while holding your breath, tighten your diaphragm and visualize how the held air begins to leave your body through your head.

Repeat the exercise 3 to 6 times.

Remember, perform the exercise as much as your body allows. Don’t overload it by force, don’t hold your breath if you can’t breathe anymore. Don’t do anything by force.

Wim Hof method – mindfulness

Wim Hof performs extreme demonstrations of the ability to control one’s mind and body. However, it is worth focusing not on achieving fame, but on the benefits. Benefits for the body and mind, for a conscious and more healthy life. Many followers of Wim Hof choose to follow his advice to show off their extraordinary skills. Conquering mountain peaks in winter is a side effect of committed training with Hof’s method. There are many people in Poland and around the world who conduct professional courses in Wim Hof’s breathing techniques and consciousness practices. With the care of specialists, the success of the method’s implementation is likely to be achieved. However, it is worth remembering that this is a process and in a short period of time it is rather highly impossible to achieve the Iceman state. Nevertheless, training makes perfect – especially with caution.

Wim Hof’s method has been popular for years. However, it is worth noting that the techniques of consciousness, meditation in the crazy modern world are increasingly popular. Undoubtedly, Wim Hof has achieved great popularity through spectacular demonstrations of his skills. However, the correct effect can be achieved through judicious training and commitment to consciousness work.
